You know about this time every year I see commercials that warn people of the hazards of drunk driving. In fact the ones that seem to be most effective are those that show the actual tragic accidents where not just the drunk driver experienced death but at times other innocent victims. I do not see this as a condemnation of those that drink and drive but a way of reaching out to those that may be tempted to do so and discourage them from getting behind the wheel. The hope here is to save lives. The theme of John 3:16 is not one of condemning people to death but one of salvation from the death that all human kind has earned. For all of us have sinned and earned or deserve the consequences of our sinful state. The good news is that God so loved us in our sinful state that He sent His only Son to pay the price that I could not pay. Jesus took upon himself the wrath of God, that my sin deserved, and imparted to me His righteousness so that I may receive eternal life. To tell people that drinking and driving might kill you is not condemning but saving. To tell people that believing in Jesus will save you from perishing is not condemning but rather loving. "For God so loved......."

We get it. You don't get it. That verse isn't talking about dying in the mortal sense. It's talking about everlasting life. You don't believe in Jesus and you're still alive. however, if you don't change your ways and believe in Jesus then yes, you will be in for eternal condemnation when you die in the mortal sense. That is the major point of the New Testament.

The point isn't "You're going to die if you don't accept Jesus". Open the Bible and see for yourself.

To me, it's outrageous that people find quoting the Bible on TV to be outrageous.

What's outrageous about children repeating a Bible verse?

Those same children see cheerleaders in outfits that promote sex, not football.

Those same children hear God's name blasphemed on TV and in movies all the time.

Those same children see Victoria's Secret and all kinds of sex-related commercials on prime time TV.

Those same children hear on the news that it's "Okay" to do things directly contrary to the Bible they quoted, but it's not Okay in many situations to quote that Bible.

Accept Jesus as your Savior and you will have everlasting life. That is one of the major points of the New Testament, and that is what these children were saying.

John 3:16 States that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son SO THAT you would have eternal life in heaven. It is faith based. Either you believe it or you don't, it's up to you. If you do you should try to live as Jesus did forgiving others of their sins. Condemming the believers came from the Jews. Jihad comes from the Muslims, what is the difference. I believe in Jesus, he lived, he died, and he rose again, all documented in history. It is up to you to make up your mind what you believe and to be held accountable for those beliefs. I will try to convince you that Jesus is the only way, you will try to convince me otherwise. It will be decided on Judgment day for all; then we will know if I am right or if you are. I pray for all people whether they are Jewish, Muslim, or some other religion I am not aware. I pray for safety and peace for all! I am a Christian and proud of it, however I am not without sin, but I know I am forgiven by the Grace of God through his Son. May God bless you who ever you are and whatever you believe. BTW What are you AFRAID of and WHY!!!!

I've seen commercials that threaten death if you don't quit smoking, and that's as true as the message from today's commercial.

You are allowed to have your beliefs, and I respect you for that.

And yes, at least you are admitting that "perish" is just a nice way of saying burn in eternal hell.

Not just Matthew 14;41 but also Matthew 13:42, 13:50, 22:13, 24:51, 25:30 and Luke 13:28 just for starters. Over and over Christ talks (or so his disciples say) about the fiery furnace and the weeping and gnashing of teeth that will be taking place there. It doesn't state that life will simply "end" as the commercial tries to make us believe with the word "perish".

You can try to pretty it up as much as we want to, but the scriptures present hell as a very real place where torment never ends for those who are sent there. Put that in your commercial if you dare. But you won't, because you know you'll be made out to be a fringe element, and you don't want to see yourself as such.

@Tebowgohome, I don't think you're here actually looking to understand what I believe, but rather to voice your offense.
So, this will be the last response I have:

Christ did speak of this issue in more than on place, but for now I'll reference this verse. Matthew 14: 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

If you review just about any reliable historical account, you'll see that it wasn't 100's of years before his followers wrote the gospels. These were first hand accounts.

The question isn't how can I follow a God who would send me to hell, the question is how could I possibly not follow a Christ who died to ensure I could be saved from it....
