A Few Words About WordPress

Why WordPress?

I get a lot of questions about blogging from various friends from work and from church.  For a variety of reasons that are too numberous to list in this post, I prefer WordPress.  If you’re looking for a cheap and easy solution, WordPress is what you’re looking for.  It has a lot of features and a number support sites that will help you with just about anything.

If you’re not super-savvy than don’t worry.  There are a number of sites that will host your WordPress blog and install it as part of the setup.  GoDaddy is my favorite (yes I know the commercials are junk and inappropriate, but the service is easy to use and inexpensive.

Installing WordPress on your GoDaddy Hosting Account

There are a number of great hosting companies for your WordPress blog, but I tend to recommend GoDaddy just because it’s affordable and easy. Other systems have better options, but not as much support. If you get lost or in trouble you can Google your issues or visit YouTube and search for WordPress+GoDaddy+Your Issue and will come up with some answers.

WordPress for Beginners

I’m happy to see more folks using WordPress for their blogs and some even for their static webpages. Here’s a good primer on WordPress:

WordPress Friends

For new folks I recommend Windows Live Writer, which is free for Windows users and is a comfortable interface for posting to your blog:

This is just the beginning… These are just a few tools to get you started.  In the future, I’ll post more about tools, tricks and plugins that will make your new site sing!

Grammarly Can Help Parents Grade Their Kids Reports

A HomeSchooling Parent’s Dream!

There is a pile of ungraded reports sitting on my desk right now… And grading the kids reports is fun in that it sharpens my own eye when writing.  To make that it a bit easier, I found www.Grammarly.com.

Grammarly is an easy to use website that allows you to copy and paste in a document, click a button and watch the magic happen.  In the end you get a list of recommended corrections that will help your article present much better.  It will also check an article for plagiarism!   I’m sure no one is purposefully plagiarizing, but it’s useful to know if your or your kids article is similar to someone else’s.

Once you run the report, the free version will give you a summary of the quality and a few recommendations.  The paid version shows you the edits.

AppShopper Is My New Best Friend

I Love Apps a Deal

So I admit it…  I’m an Apps junkie.  Either for my Mac, my iPhone or my iPad I love finding that gem of a program that will make my life easier or my task more fun.  However, last year I liked it a little too much.  When I did my takes last year, I was amazed at how quickly those little .99 apps add up!

I was thrilled when I stumbled on the AppShopper app for the iPad.  Even more thrilled when I checked out their website!

AppShopper monitors the App Store for reduced price or free apps for your iOS device or Mac.  I’ve found some GREAT little programs in there that I didn’t know existed and will be very helpful.

Give it a try and go check out www.AppShopper.com and also add it to your iOS devices.

John 3:16 – That’s a Lot Of People Football Commercial from Focus On the Family

Rock on…. This is really well done.  Cute, simple and to the point.  …wow…

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

I saw this tonight while watching the Bronco versus Patriots Post Season game.

I’m sure this had nothing to do with Tim Tebow :)

Free Christian Audiobooks

I love audiobooks!  Like many, I’m really busy and spend a lot of time on the road.  I’m not a big fan of the FM radio that plays the same tired four songs all day and even my satellite radio becomes monotonous at time.  So, from time to time I like plugging in an Audiobook.

Audible.com is a good site, but sometimes pricey.  ChristianAudio.com has a lot of great content and really health “free download” site.  There are a variety of authors, including Timothy Keller, which I just download.

The site is complete with MobileApps, podcasts and a blog.

Give it a try!

Mobile Devices and The Cultural Impact [Statistics]

I found this video while preparing a presentation on Mobile Apps for Realtors. It’s pretty telling, as is the infograph from Microsoft below.

The GloBible Rocks!

The GloBible

I just downloaded the GloBible app for my iPad and it’s amazing!  I’ve always been a big fan of YouVersion app for my phone and iPad, but the GloBible goes much further (upgraded version).  Multiple versions, interactive videos and photos, multi-media lessons and social sharing are all integrated into a very cool and user friendly interface.  The downside is that it doesn’t support the Droid phones.

Some Great Tools & Plugins for Realtors on WordPress

This is pretty cool.  If you know your scripture and just need to find it to copy or see in different versions, www.WordOf.GD might be for you!  See the graphic below for how it works.
